In Recent Years
Protomet has more than doubled in size and introduced a proprietary line of products marketed under the PTM Edge Watersports brand that makes and markets boating mirrors and wakeboard tower components for boats of all kinds. In 2014, a $7 million plant expansion brought new staff and state-of-the-art high-tech equipment from around the world to the company's headquarters.
In April 2019,
Protomet officially opened its new $30 million, 244,000-square foot plant in Loudon County with a community-wide open house. The new facility houses engineering and administrative offices as well as a massive manufacturing and finishing operation. When fully staffed, the new Protomet facility will create 200 new jobs for Loudon County.

Founder and President of Protomet, earned a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and an M.S. in Industrial Engineering from the University of Tennessee. A Knoxville native, Bohanan worked at the Y-12 Nuclear Weapons Complex for 12 years before launching Protomet Corporation in 1997.
Under Bohanan’s leadership, Protomet experienced rapid growth in the past decade and was recognized by the statewide publication Business TN Magazine as one of the 50 fastest-growing companies in the state.
In recent years, the company has invested heavily in R&D and now has numerous patents for products that are sold to major OEMs as well as an international dealer network.
